Frank Serio is a well known and respected photographer who works mainly in bluegrass and acoustic roots music. (He is pictured above with frequent collaborator Deena Hudson.) He has amassed a large collection of quality pictures from the many festivals and shows he has attended in his 15 years in the business. His work has been published in a variety of magazines, appeared on websites, and used as CD artwork.
He has been the staff photographer for both Spring Fest and Magnolia Fest in Florida since their inception. He is also the staff photographer for the String Break and Riverhawk festivals in Florida as well as the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in upstate New York. He regularly covers other festivals up and down the east coast including Merlefest in North Carolina and Harvest Fest in Georgia.
It was his love of music that inspired him to concentrate on archiving live acoustic musicians at various festivals around the country. As a songwriter, he saw one of his songs place second in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting contest.
The first two songs playing in the background were co-written by Frank and Verlon Thompson. The first one is "Black Hills Serenade" and the second is "Virginia Blood." Both of these demos are sung and played by Verlon. The next four songs, "Alabama Girl," "Texas Nights," "Your Memory," and "The Name You Scream," were co-written with his sister, Nancy Serio. She is the vocalist on these songs as well.
